Danginn | 23 | 1950 | 722 | 191’5″ | 30’9″ | Yacht built for owner, D. K. Ludwig. Completed in 1950. Renamed Argo, Henriette II, Henriette, Chrysalis. Refitted 2006. Still sailing in 2024 as Hasabi II. |
This yacht was built built for owner, D. K. Ludwig. Ludwig wasn’t an entertainer, but he must have needed some kind of “mobile office” or other suitable venue for conducting negotiations. As he was noted for saying, his hobby was making money. This little bit of luxury seems quite out of character. The name is a portmanteau of his first name and his wife’s – Daniel and Ginger. Twin 950HP Sulzer-Busch diesel engines give a top speed of 14 knots. This vessel was completed alongside the last of the Bulkpetrol type tankers at Welding Shipyards in Norfolk.
Of note: this yacht was sold and replaced by another larger yacht of the same name built by Ludwig’s shipyard in Japan in 1960. Both of these yachts are still sailing in 2024.
